What do you get when you combine: -your friends (translation: a bunch of fools) -a pair of running shoes -a pair of Speedos -1 mile of excited and weary shoppers -festive attire -holiday cheer?
That’s right. It's the Holiday Speedo Run.
Granted we don’t get the polar bear awards that my friends back east do and I give props when they are due (www.santaspeedorun.com ). We still have winter out here, but it’s LA. Yes, it’s cold, but it ain’t New England cold. LA Tri Club – note that the time makes it possible for you to still get in your Trancas/Valley Ride, Team in Training workouts, or simply to recover from your office holiday party the nite before.

Attire - depending on what you celebrate: Christmas celebrators – Speedos (Red or Green), Santa hat/beard or Elf attire Hanukkah celebrators – Speedos, optional - beard, fedorah, menorah Festivus celebrators – Speedos, celebratory flagpole (we will do the hearing of grievances and feats of strength competition after the run) All others – Speedos, appropriate head/festive attire. Note: Speedo does make women's products, so this is not a single-sex event. Spray-painted briefs for men are also acceptable. Route: Our route will take us down the Promenade, through the Santa Monica Place, with a final circuit of the Promenade, ending back where we started. Along the Way We will be singing your favorite carols (Deck the Halls; Dreidel Dreidel, Dreidel; etc.). And since we’ll only be going 1 mile, at a turtle’s pace, this is clearly not just for hard-core athletes, so bring your friends and loved ones – the more the merrier. Free Beer / Prizes If you are one of the 1st 15 people to arrive, Babak will buy you a beer himself. What? It's a Holiday Speedo Run, you expect more prizes than a free beer? Get real. Just come on out and have a good time. | ||
